Murder condemned, bandh call lamented
KHONSA, Jun 05: Strongly condemning the murder of engineering student Bomjen Gapak in Itanagar, the Nocte Chief Council (NCC) here today demanded immediate arrest of the culprits, and sought exemplary punishment for them under the law.
In a press release, the NCC expressed concern over the delay in the investigation, saying no arrest has been made by the capital police so far in the case.
It, however, added that announcing a bandh over the issue would not bring any solution ‘but only curtail the basic rights of the majority of the population,’ and appealed to the ANSU to reconsider the bandh it has announced on June 11. There are other ways, such as taking out processions, staging dharnas, hunger strikes, etc, to express our angst, the NCC said, adding, ‘We have to show the government the people’s might by organising processions or dharnas in thousands.’
