Prasar Bharati’s digital channels have recorded 100% growth by 2020, with Pakistan having the largest number of online viewers on Doordarshan (DT) and All India Radio (AIR), the government said on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, channels across Doordarshan and Akashwani watch more than one billion digital views and more than six billion digital watch minutes a year.

“By 2020, Pakistan will have the second-largest digital audience for DD and AIR content, behind the United States for domestic viewers from within India,” the ministry said in a statement.

In 2020, Presser Bharati’s mobile app ‘NewsOn Air’ recorded more than 2.5 million users and over 300 million views on the platform. More than 200 streams of live broadcasts emerged as the most popular feature.

“Apart from DT National and DT News, other channels in Presser Bharati’s top 20 digital channels are DT Sahayatri’s Marathi News, Kannada programming on DD Santhana, Bangla News from DD Bungalow and Telugu programs on DD Saptagiri.

“DD Sports and Akashwani Sports have developed a consistent digital following with live commentary, while Prasar Bharati Archives and DD Kisan are the top 10 standard digital artists,” the statement said.

Underlining the significant digital audience for news from the Northeast, the ministry said the All India Radio (AIR) News Northeast service was also in the top 10 and had accidentally crossed the digital milestone of 100,000 subscribers.

“Among the most popular digital videos of 2020 are the Prime Minister’s interaction with school children, the Republic Day Parade 2020 and the rare video of Sangundala Devi in ​​the 1970s from the DT National Archives,” the statement said.

The Bharati YouTube channel, a dedicated campaign for all Sanskrit language content, was launched in 2020, in which all radio and television content produced in Sanskrit are uploaded across the DT-Air nationwide network for easy access to viewers.

Nearly 1,500 radio plays are available in various Indian languages ​​across the DT-Air network, which are digitized and uploaded on its YouTube channels.

“Dedicated Mann Ki Baat and Twitter Handles saw rapid growth in 2020. Man Ki Baat Twitter Handle now has more than 67,000 followers. The YouTube channel has regional language versions of different episodes of Mann Ki Baat,” the statement said.

It said, “Thousands of hours of educational content are now available on our YouTube channels in different Indian languages.” According to the ministry, the best historical value rare archive content available only with DT-AIR will be digitized and uploaded on the YouTube channel of Prasar Bharati Archives.

“In the public interest, a dedicated team is working to dig into such music, cultural and political content from thousands of tapes recorded over decades at various stations of DT and AIR across the country, making the content easily accessible to the public domain for educational and research purposes, It said.
