Protesters clashed with police on Monday afternoon, a day after the Calcutta High Court allowed the para-teachers’ organization to hold a sit-in protest near the Shahid Minar in central Kolkata from January 11 to 13.
Initially, police tried to stop the procession near Shahid Minar. However, protesters broke them and tried to move from Mayo Road to Lady Dufferin Road. Several policemen tried to prevent them from winning. For groups of protesters accused police of attacking them, Deputy Commissioner (South) Sudhir Kumar nilakantam and another police officer were injured. Finally, the procession stopped at the intersection of Red Road and Lady Dufferin Road.
Teachers have now decided to observe the Riley fast in protest of the state administration.
