Israel expects 2,000 rockets / day in conflict with Hezbollah

Israel does not want war with Lebanon Hezbollah but is preparing to achieve a record 2,000 rockets a day in the event of an armed conflict between the two camps, a senior military official told AFP on Sunday.

In the wake of heavy protests in East Jerusalem in May, Hamas, the Islamist movement in power in the Gaza Strip, fired rockets into major Israeli cities and responded immediately, resulting in an 11-day war. In all, about 4,400 rockets were fired from the Palestinian territory into Israeli territory, exceeding the speed of the last war with Hezbollah (2006) and launching a similar number of rockets from Lebanon but within a month, according to the IDF.

300 rockets were fired at Israel

Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile shield, which has been in service for about a decade, intercepted most of the rockets launched from Gaza in May, but less than 300 of them crashed into populated areas in Israel.

As a result, cities such as the metropolis Tel Aviv or Ashdod (south) have experienced “a high number of scenes” since the country was created, the Israeli general said in an interview with the Court of Justice. In the event of a confrontation or war with Hezbollah, we expect at least five rockets to be fired from Lebanon into Israel each day. It will produce 1,500 to 2,500 rockets, “Home Front Command” (“Interior Front Command”, editor’s note) said this high-ranking official.

Established in 1992, after the First Gulf War, this branch of the Israeli military is responsible for civil defense, that is, to prepare the country in the event of threats, conflict or disaster.

In 2006, Lebanon was criticized by Home Front Command for responding to the war with Hezbollah, which killed more than 1,200 people on the Lebanese side, mostly civilians, and 160 on the Israeli side, mostly the military. The war served as a “wake-up call” to the Home Front Command, which subsequently strengthened its liaison units, which today stopped to provide relief during the attacks on 250 Israeli municipalities.
