Joe Root sees better records in Chennai Test against India, Sports News

Root is set to play in his 100th Test match, which will put him on the elite list of England cricketers with more than 100 Test matches. Root will also have the opportunity to surpass his former captain Alastair Cook for a unique batting record against India in the 100th Test.

Root, who has 49 Test fifties under his belt so far, is second on the list of highest fifties scored by an English batsman in the longest form of the game. Cook leads the rankings with 57 Test fifties. So, he is only the second English batsman to score 50 fifties in Test cricket, having scored a root in the Chennai Test against India.

The 30-year-old is looking at another milestone in Test cricket, with the England captain just a fifty away from scoring a fifty against India in the upcoming series. If Root hits a fifty in the Chennai Test, he will surpass Cook’s record of an English batsman scoring more fifties against India. Both Root and Cook have drawn nine fifties against India.

Meanwhile, batsman Olly Pope has been included in the England Test squad for the India tour. Pope has fully recovered from a left shoulder injury sustained in August 2020 against Pakistan. The UK Medical Council is satisfied he is available for examination. The 23-year-old has been training with the entire team for the past two days.
