Police said on Tuesday that the contractor wanted the crematorium where 24 people were killed here from a village near the border of Meerut and Muzaffarnagar districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Ghaziabad police on Monday arrested Muradnagar Nagar Balika executive officer Niharika Singh, junior engineer Chandra Paul and supervisor Ashish for being involved in the tender process to build the structure. They were sent to court custody for 14 days.
At least 24 people were killed and 17 others injured when the roof of a dormitory collapsed in a crematorium in Muradnagar.
Contractor Ajay Tyagi, who was in hiding after the news of the collapse spread, was arrested by a joint team of Muradnagar and Niwari police near the Ganga canal bridge in Sadathi village, officials said.
Earlier, police raided his hideout and senior police superintendent (rural) Iraj Raja told PTI that he had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for senior police superintendent Dr Nathani for the information that led to his arrest.
A case has been registered against Tiyagi under various sections of the law and he will be produced in court on Tuesday, police said.
Thiyagi was awarded a tender of Rs 55 lakh for renovation and construction of the shelter three months ago, and the shelter was opened to the public 15 days ago.
S.P. said an investigation was underway into how much substandard material was used in the construction. He added that after the trial, corruption charges would be added.
