The report says Indian Railways should diversify its freight sector

Indian Railways needs to diversify its freight sector to meet targets that play a major role in the country’s total freight movement.

According to a joint report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCI) and Crisil Risk and Infrastructure Solutions, Indian Railways should focus on capturing new freight opportunities in transporting cement, steel and vehicles.

Another important project is to allow private soldiers to run trains in specialized freight corridors. As per the organizational arrangement planned for the operations of the TFCs, the IR will be the sole customer for the TFCIL, which will provide the infrastructure for the operation of the trains. “This is one of the models followed in many countries, and many players operating internationally may be interested in investing and operating in this area,” the report said.

The study was released by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

Speaking at the event, he said, “Freight trains are part of a new schedule and they will be released.”
