The ‘Green Zoo Rescue and Rehabilitation Kingdom’ to be set up by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) in Jamnagar district will be “one of the largest zoos in the world”, said MK Das, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. Conference marking Assocham Foundation Week on Friday.

According to the website of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), Reliance Industries Limited has submitted a detailed project report (DPR) with the proposed master (layout) plan for the establishment of a Green Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Kingdom in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Approved by the 33rd Meeting of the Central Zoo Authority held on 12 February 2019.
Fifteen days ago, the Indian Express reported that 12 leopards captured from the wild had been transferred to the zoo, which was being built by RIL. These leopards were captured by the forest department after attacking humans.
According to the layout plan shared by CZA, the zoo in Jamnagar has conservation and breeding grounds, water bodies, presentation center, rescue and rehabilitation center and exotic animals, wildlife from Gujarat, desert animals, rodents, lizards and other animals found in India.
Among the exotic animals, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, kangaroos, white rhinos, African lions, African elephants, cheetahs, jaguars, pygmy hippos, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, lemurs, komodo dragons, green and yellow anacondas are expected to be part of it.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Vijay Roupani said that Gujarat accounts for 53 per cent of the country’s total foreign direct investment and more than 100 Fortune Five hundred companies are currently operating in Gujarat.
