A 13-year-old boy from Malat, a Mumbai suburb, was abducted on Sunday and two people were arrested for demanding Rs 10 lakh. Police said the suspects were tracked down within three hours of their mobile phone location.
Sekar Vishwakarma (35) and Divyanshu Vishwakarma (21), who were inspired by the popular TV crime show, abducted the boy outside his home in Malad around 5 pm. In the initial call, the accused told the boy’s father that he would be taken to the nearest civic body office to be fined for not wearing a 13-year-old mask. Later, they called his father and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh if he wanted to see his son alive. The boy’s father approached the local police and began an investigation.
Based on technical intelligence, police found and arrested the two at the Volnoi Colony in Malad (West), an official said, and the boy was rescued unharmed. The accused told the police that they had got the idea of making money by kidnapping one of the accused.
“They said they were looking for potential targets when they were teenagers zero. They have been arrested,” police added.
